How do I get to Bentota?

Bendota is a small town, which can be reached from colombo in 2 hours journey . By road it is 82 kilometeres from colombo. There are different modes of travel available to reach the town. The travelling time varies by different modes of transport.

The train travel from colombo costs $ 2 which reaches the city in an hour-, Bus travel takes 2 hours and costs $ 1 to $ 2. The taxi fare is around $ 40 to $ 45. For further information visit the Srilankan tourism website - https://www.sltda.gov.lk/

Bendota Srilanka:

Bendota's pristine beach attracts the crowd from various asia pacific countries, including India, japan and also many from Europe more specifically Britons who love the country and its weather.

Being a tropical town, you will see the weather a bit humid but the sea breeze is soothing in the morning and in the evening. The private beaches are neat and tidy. If you are planning a week holiday in a peaceful and serenic atmosphere, this is one of the place to choose from.

Stay at Bendota:

There are plenty of options available at the town. From shared villas, lodges, Hotels to private resorts. We were staying at one of the private resorts which were charging $ 70 for a day stay. Food and drinks are good, with many options to choose from. Near the hotels, there are TukTuks or autos available for local commuting.

One of the advantages of the private resort is that, it has its own private beach which can be seen from your hotel room. If you keep the large windows open, the breeze touches your sleeves in the morning and evening hours.

If you choose to walk, you can take a stroll and enjoy the environment

Can you swim at Bentota Beach?

The bendota beach is well maintained, neat and tidy. The water is ferocious at some places but otherwise, safe for going near and enjoy the view.

May be for swimmers, you may have to get the guidance from the hotel staff, since there are No life guards available at the long beach except a few fisherman in the morning hours, fishing at far away places. It is safe to stay at the beach until 6.30 PM. However, watchout for your personal safety, if you are a foreigner.

Boat Safari:

From Bendota, we can reach Kalutara in an hour journey. Kalutara itself is a beautiful town with a nice beach, resorts and other site seeing places.

From Kalutara, we can hire a boat based on the number of travellers - A small boat to large one. However, we have to do bargain before getting the right price.

Madhuganga river is famous for its mangroves and a bio-diversity area. There are multiple species and living organisms living in madhu river with number of exotic birds, turtles, river otter, crocodiles and small to mid sized dragons.

Being a multi-cultural country, you can see hindu temples along with buddhist temples and monastries. There is a Fish farm, cinnamon making area and other interesting places to visit in and around Madhu Ganga. A boat ride of 2 hours plus will be a life time experience.
