Kanchi Kailasanathar temple was constructed by Pallava king - The famous Nara-Simha-varma pallavan in the 7th century. The temple is famous for its intricate sculptures.
Kanchi Kamatchi Amman temple is known for its 1000s of years of history. The Temple is visited by Lord Dasaratha and he performed Putra Kameshti yaga for getting children. Lord Rama and three brothers born after Putra Kameshti yaga as explained in Ramayana.
Kanchi Ekambaranathan temple is again one of the oldest temples with beautiful sculptures and murals. This is part of the Pancha bootha stalas and representing - Earth. The temple teaches the oneness of god and there is no separate shrine for Devi. The word Ekam represent - Oneness. The temple has a 1000 pillar well constructed hall.
Sri Varadarajaperumal temple is one of the 108 holiiest shrines as per Vaishanava philosophy. The temple is having 1000+ years of history and was constructed by Chola king - Kulothunga chola I. When the barbarians invaded the country, the temple deity was shifted to a place called udayarpalayam near Trichy district. The British Governor's Robert Clive's family gifted a necklace called Maharakandi to the temple as a goodwill gesture. Athi Varadar - Lord Vishnu is carved out of fig tree - Tamil name - Deva Athi tree is located at Vasantha mandapam of Sri. Varadararajaperumal temple.
The deity is preserved under water for 40 years and comes out of the pond every 40 years for worship by devotees. Millions of devotees throng the temple those days for worship of the beloved.
The deity is preserved by applying natural oil and kept safe for 40 years under water. Despite 40 years under water, the deity is kept safe against any major damage for such a long time.
