Galle Srilanka

Galle Town:

Galle city is 120 kilometers away from Colombo, the capital of srilanka. If you want to visit a 16th century town, a sober, a village type town and spend a day without any hustle or bustle of the metro cities, it is a place to be. A few friendly restaurants, a few places of interests, multiple choice of accomodations and hotels are an apt summary of the town.

Galle's History:

The town was initially ruled by the portuguese, then by Dutch and then by British in a matter of 350 years.

The Portuguese ruled the city in the 16th century and build the fortified city which includes a Fort. This was expanded by Dutch later and British used this fort for their commerce and used it for their exports and imports.

The dilapidated port signifies the active nature of the city in the 16th century and later. However, there is not much to explore, except the sea, some beautiful seaside buildings and the museum nearby.

I was told that, the Portuguese surrendered to Dutch in 1640's and british took over the rule of the city in the later part of 17th century
